V,Suggestions for promotion of the prototyping industry
(2)Areas to be strengthened in the engineering service to
support development
|
|
We consider the following two points as areas requiring enhancement for the expansion of the market, in order for the engineering service to support development.
|
|
1,Promotion for obtaining orders to make prototypes
|
1,Promotion to obtain orders for prototypes in the innovation
of processes and products
There is a great need for making prototypes of the research results obtained in universities, and of the developed products by venture companies after a certain period of development. On the other hand, large companies might depend on outsourcing to make prototypes in the process of product innovation or production
process innovation to develop or improve manufacturing equipment. Thus we will try to promote sales to both prospects.
2,Promotion to obtain package or unit orders
In manufacturing prototypes, which will be the core of the prototyping business, it is conceivable that the unit orders by combining modules and package orders for several parts of one product might increase, given the requirements for higher speed of development, reduced production costs and the masking of proprietary
technologies (a countermeasure against reverse engineering).*1 Thus we will build a sales system and a collaborative system to deal with these needs, and try to promote sales with a commitment to product development.
* 1 Reverse engineering: A technique or an act intended to disclose nearly all the technical information of a product by analyzing its structure and specifications
3,Promotion to obtain orders with an emphasis on design
With the advancement of 3-D information technology it is predicted that the practice of front loading*2 will become more common and that the role of the design division will expand. We will enhance our design engineering skills and promote so that we can obtain prototyping orders from the design phase.
* 2 Front loading: Various design issues are loaded in the front phase of product
development to find solutions in order to enhance the efficiency of product development while cutting the development period and costs.

|
2,Promotion to obtain outsourcing orders in the fields of new items and cutting-edge technologies
|
1,Promotion to obtain orders for prototypes in the innovation
of processes and products
It is now essential for corporate development to make good use of cutting-edge technologies. To accumulate technologies in-house and improve the speed of development and cost efficiency, companies are actively employing external resources. They have great needs for the outsourcing of services utilizing cutting-edge technologies and the most advanced processing technologies.
Particularly, there is a great need for the leading technologies in material development, nanotechnology and micro-processing technology.*3 Otherwise, we can see their need to tie up with the field of environmental technology in order to make products that are environmentally friendly. Additionally, considering the
social environment of the future we believe it is a field of increasing demand.
Moreover, the need is great in various fields of technical development for peripheral technologies for development--including research tools--such as equipment for analysis, measurement and testing, analysis chips, etc.
Toward the development of such cutting-edge technologies, we should take advantage of the regional features of Kyoto, where there are developing companies and many universities with research organizations. Further, we need to promote the development of technologies through the alliance of industry, academia and government.

|
3,Potential for finding a global market
|
1,Promotion to obtain orders for prototypes in the innovation
of processes and products
Because proximity to the service contractor is not so important to clients as a condition of issuing orders, if one can provide high quality and excellent service that satisfy the client, one can find a market nationwide and, ultimately a worldwide market. Thus it will be necessary to set up a system with which to
accept orders from the neighborhood and from overseas. On the other hand, it will be necessary to understand the needs of each corporate customer in the case of proposing a technology that meets the customerfs needs, and to gather strategic information and conduct project planning.
*3 In the "promotion strategies for each field," as summarized in the General Conference on Science & Technologies in September 2001, the following five items are suggested as key areas in the field of materials:
> "Nano-devices and materials for the next-generation information communication system"
> "Materials for protection of the environment and efficient use of energy"
> "Nanotechnology to use and control micro-systems, materials and bio-mechanisms for medical use"
> "Fundamental technologies for measurement, evaluation, processing, data analysis, simulation, etc., and their fields of influence"
> "Technologies to add innovative properties and functions to matters and materials"
