(2) Prediction of promising fields for the prototyping industry
2. Outlook for Outsourcing
3,Expected outsourcing of "prototyping"
Universities and venture companies have a high need for the production of prototypes for research work and trial products, while large companies have minimal need for the production of prototypes.
Research centers have a high need for "prototypes of newly developed parts" and "prototypes of new materials."

Approximately 60% of the universities responded with "prototypes of R&D parts" as the top item. Moreover, venture companies ranked "prototypes of new products" high. Therefore, both groups have a need for prototype production.

Large companies did not answer to increase the outsourcing of "prototyping of new products or new parts," except the manufacturers of machines and devices, who have high needs to produce prototypes of new products and new parts, manufacturing equipment, PC boards, control software, etc. At the same time, "engineering and design" is ranked high. We can therefore say that the outside contractors are expected to handle the design process up to prototyping. Otherwise, manufacturers of food products rate the need to "develop or improve the processing method or manufacturing equipment" high on the list.

Given the above facts, we can say that outside contractors need to discern the seeds of prototyping from the process of product development or raw materials development.

Research centers generally have a high need for "development and manufacturing of devices and supplies (test chemicals, etc.) for testing and experiments," as well as "making prototypes of newly developed parts" and lower for "prototyping new products." Additionally, textile manufacturers have a high need for "prototyping improved parts."

After "development of raw materials," which was ranked high in the total outsourcing needs, there are characteristic needs to make prototypes using new raw materials from "prototyping new raw materials," "prototyping materials for developed parts," "prototyping plastic-resin products," or "prototyping composite materials."
