(2) Prediction of promising fields for the prototyping industry
1, The current situation of outsourcing
2,Contents of outsourced orders
Many orders are intended to contract the work needed to support development, such as "analysis", "testing" and "inspection", etc. Large companies have a considerable need for "development of software for information systems," "design" and "development of manufacturing equipment"; research centers have a need for "development of materials"; venture companies have a need for "prototype of a new product"; and universities need "development of software for information systems."

Large companies are outsourcing "development of software for information systems," "design" and "development of manufacturing equipment" along with "testing," "inspection" and "analysis." In many of these works they have the core technologies in-house, meaning that they order only peripheral work from outside contractors.
Particularly, manufacturers of food products that had a high rate of outsourcing ordered "analysis," "development of software for information systems" and "development of manufacturing equipment" more often. "Manufacturers of machines and devices" more often outsourced "analysis," "development of software for information systems," "design," "research" and "prototype of a newly developed part." They all mentioned the cutting-edge technologies, such as "using nanotech technologies" and "micro-processing," as important technologies to consider when placing orders.

Research centers order "analysis" by an overwhelming margin, followed by "testing" and "development of materials" and occasionally "development of software for information systems," which large companies order more often. "Testing" and "analysis" are used more often by the chemical industry.
Manufacturers of machines and equipment order more "development of materials" and "development of manufacturing equipment."

Venture companies order more "testing" as well as "prototype of a new product," followed by "design" and "analysis." Since they are in a period of transition from the development phase to the production phase, they tend to place more orders for prototypes. Particularly, about half of the manufacturers of machines and equipment are outsourcing "design."

Universities are outsourcing "inspection" and "analysis" that utilize technologies that are not available in-house, "development of software for information systems" and production of prototypes for R&D. Regarding the prototypes, the main contents of orders are devices for presentation of research results and original parts for production of researched devices.
